Social Stories
Social stories help students learn a variety of social skills, positive behaviors, and lower anxiety. Teachers and counselors can work together to write a short story that clearly illustrates behavioral expectations for a child. They are written from the student's perspective to allow the student to relate to the information provided in the story. We have a new student that has joined us and does not feel comfortable yet in his environment. Additionally, our new student is in a grade level that is departmentalized - meaning the students switch classes every 45-60 minutes to a new classroom, teacher, and subject. We co-authored a social story to help with transitions in the morning. Here is a sample:
